Taco Tuesday at the West Asheville Lounge and Kitchen (WALK) might be one of the locals’ worst-kept secrets. After all, who can say no to $1.50 tacos?
Certainly not us. Getting together on Tuesday night for some tacos and pitchers of beer has been a longstanding tradition amongst our friends. It’s a great time to catch up and enjoy some great food and company.
The WALK is spacious, but be prepared to wait for a table on Tuesday nights. Like we said, it’s not exactly a well-kept secret. We grabbed some beers at the bar while we waited.

The restaurant’s design is interesting and inviting. Exposed brick and beams, unique art, geometric chandeliers, and hanging light fixtures give this place it’s flair.
Our dear pals Dave and Alina joined us for a meal. We’ve been friends for years and love any chance we get to see them.
The specials rotate regularly, so it’s something different just about every week.
We shared the house chips and roasted jalapeño-red pepper salsa, throwing in a side of queso for good measure. Chelsea, in addition, opted for the curry butternut squash soup with cilantro and turmeric oil and was not disappointed. (The price-specials are so good that it’s hard not to at least try everything on the menu…)
Alina and Mattie shared the grilled veggies and thought they were great. Huge chunks of portobello mushroom, eggplant, zucchini and roasted red pepper, cooked to perfection. We talked endlessly about how to replicate them at home–they’re that good.
After the initial taste of good beer we moved on to PBR pitchers at the table…which are usually on special for six bucks a pop (winning…).
Chelsea got one straight-up beef taco (hard-shell) with shredded lettuce, cheese and salsa (classic) and a fried zucchini taco that they had on special. Fried zucchini in a corn tortilla with cilantro, salsa fresco and spicy ranch – and this one right here, man…was incredible.
Mattie, known cheese-hater, had a crispy tempeh taco without the shredded cheddar on top and a side of sautéed kale – (the kale being the only part of the meal that could have used some work). But the tempeh was done nicely and the meal was overall enjoyable.
And when there are delicate, mini chocolate or yellow cupcakes with buttercream icing and sprinkles available for $1 each…you get them and try one of each flavor.
They are the perfect amount of sweetness after a big meal and a couple of pitchers of PBR (at least it is for us).
Big ups to WALK for being such a consistent hit. See you next Tuesday!
